So, I have fiddled with HFT before and I tend to believe from what little I know about physiology and observation of life in general that we respond better to HFT. That's not to say other methods don't work and this isn't intended to be an argument for that rather my experience and thoughts.
I am pretty well read, when it comes to programming and am a podcast junkie. So, I have a decent idea of what I am doing at least when it comes to myself. So, we are talking powerlifting here, but I have also done HFT bbing as well. I ran sheiko once which nearly killed me but I learned and progressed from it. Another experiment I ran was with my deadlift before a meet, I hadn't dled in over a year and my pull was only about 405. So, three days a week so I pulled 315 for doubles x 3 sets. On the 4th I pulled 405x1x3. I did that for 10 weeks and ended up pulling 585 at the meet. Not conclusive by any means, but worth pondering.
Also, as a side note I have is that HFT is just part of a yearly plan with other phases mixed in as needed. I felt like HFT was appropriate for me at this time was my weaknesses was confidence under heavy weight and possibly lost potential from not doing enough top end work. So, the plan is to EOD work up to a heavy single double or triple in the squat and bench, but for the dl do speed work or pull lighter from blocks. Speed work could always be substituted if you felt like crap.
So, really what you have is HFT light for a mid 40s guy who does this for fun. I basically started out with doing each lift only heavy once a week then the other 2 or 3 days I would go to 60% the first week then 65% the next week and so on. I tweaked my pec before I started this so, I am just doing super light sets, but still EOD and for a bit volume trying to add 10lbs when I can. So, Saturday I did 135x10,155x10,175x10 and next session I start at 145x10.
Anyway, if nothing else I am having fun with it. I have more to say but dinner is calling me 🙂
