Cris "Cyborg" Justino frustrated with UFC given revelations of Deadspin report regarding 2012 Vitor Belfort drug test
Sep 22, 2015
Cris "Cyborg" Justino has gotten blasted by UFC Champ Ronda Rousey over a past failed steroid test time and time again, but after passing any and all tests done over the last several years, she's feeling particularly offended by Monday's Deadspin report from Josh Gross.
The report's revelation that Belfort had an abnormally high level of testosterone prior to a 2012 title fight with Jon Jones - and that the UFC knew about it and did nothing - is not sitting well with Cyborg, and she posted to her Facebook page about the story on Tuesday.
"Hmmmm... somebody tests positive for steroids BEFORE fighting for a UFC World Championship, but is still allowed to fight, and it takes almost 3 years before the public finds out?" she asked. "Open your eyes! I am clean, and am willing to prove it with a year of Olympic testing before any fight, I wonder if the current UFC champion at 135 is willing to agree to the same?
"What do you mean? some are crucified and others are not even mentioned!
She added in the comments that her comments aren't about Belfort himself, and instead felt simply that all should be held to the same standards.
"Has nothing to do with Vitor, his name only appeared," she wrote. "It was this point I am emphasizing. I am emphasizing that everyone has to be punished or equal rights to all."
Penick's Analysis: The UFC denying Cyborg an opportunity based on the past failed test really doesn't look right given they knew about this with Belfort and have continued to give him opportunity after opportunity despite that. It's a completely hypocritical stance, and they've left themselves open to nothing but criticism in their handling of - and in their complicity with - the sport's entire TRT fiasco.
