Walking or standing lunges. Is one better than to the other, if so why?
 
I do backwards lunges, easier on the knee. Try moving backwards.

Yeah we always do forward motions. Backwards add a little challenge to it. Plus it's soooooo much better for the knees if you're like me with knee issues.

my knees cant take leg extensions, lunges are what i moved to instead, and leg press. I my try the backward ones

Leg extensions are awful for your knees. It's patellar tendinitis waiting to happen. It wasn't an issue when I was 18. But now after some wear and tear and injuries I've learned to have to train in different ways and smarter.

They're called reverse lunges. Do them all the time, but only stationary. I've never seen anyone lunge backwards down the gym hall... 😱 ..... That has to take a boat load of concentration if you've got a barbell on your shoulders.
 
Forget lunges man , my right knee would give out in me , quick ! So to warm up I'll use the leg extension on the lowest setting which is 10lbs and after about 15min I'll start knocking out leg presses !
That's my go to .
 
Love DB lunges... they feel great to me

I like split squats with rear foot on a bench. Even though they're similar, lunges hurt my knees and split squats don't as much.
