Guys first and foremost I realize I suffer PTSD from war and also anxiety issues. I need to get on some type of anti anxiety medicine, but one that's not a controlled substance i.e. Xanax.

Also last 2-3 weeks my girlfriend and me have been having rough sex a lot where I choke her and give her the rape fantasy.

Last night made twice that I begun choking her in her sleep and I didn't know because I was sleeping hard. She did note that I was sexually aroused and hard during the process.

I have two questions. One does anyone take or know an anti anxiety medicine that's not a controlled substance that works? Secondly has anyone experienced being rough while sleeping and didn't know?

I believe if my girlfriend and me stop having rough sex then that issue may go away on its on within time, otherwise I my have to start sleeping in a separate bed. Neither time was I rough, like risk of death but I'm afraid it could get worse possibly.

Any thoughts or suggestions is appreciated.

Wow we got a lot in common.... I'm the same way...lately it's been the worst after two of my friends on my fire squad committEd suicide back to back march and April...I personally have never wanted to kill myself but always want the pain to go away, that why I geared towards fitness because alcohol and drugs are not the answer...I personally take 1mg of klonopins 4x a day then 2mg of Xanax broken down as needed for freak out moments... I was taking a mood stablizer lexapro, but stopped because I couldn't eat and it was making my personality weird....I've tried every cocktail, for me Klonopins work the best (if your not into drinking and don't abuse them) they are an anti anxiety medication that doesn't cause depression like Xanax does and Valume.. It also doesn't fuck you up because it's long a acting (if you take a bunch obviously it will)... I take trazadone at night to help me not only fall asleep but stay asleep, this medication also doesn't make me feel like shit and groggy in the morning.

Now there is an alternative option if you completely want to stay away from Benzos it's called Gabapentin (Neurontin). It's what most psychiatrists are prescribing now. Personally I like Klonopins because I don't have an addiction and the GABA just wasn't cutting it.

Not to get all biblical, but in the end I turned to God for help. Started going to church 2 weeks ago and I just feel a lot better

Gabbapenton works great for my sciatica. And will knock you out.
Also a few back , I had a few episodes

I am not sure if this would work for you but piracetam is used in europe for anxiety. This is an old study but quite a bit on the subject if you look around. There are quite a few positive reviews and some say it can add to it if you have adrenal fatigue. Might be worth a shot.

In the social interaction test of anxiety Piracetam (100 mg/kg) had an anxiolytic profile very similar to that seen after 5 days of administration of chlordiazepoxide (5 mg/kg). Piracetam (50-300 mg/kg) produced no signs of sedation and it was therefore suggested that it might be a non-sedative anxiolytic drug. Piracetam (100 mg/kg) produced significantly higher cortical concentrations of 5-hydroxytryptamine and lower concentrations of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid, indicating a reduced 5-HT turnover. There were no drug-induced changes in noradrenaline or dopamine in any brain region, either with or without pretreatment with alpha-methylparatyrosine. The cortical concentrations of 7 amino acids were measured and were unchanged by treatment with Piracetam.

Exactly what JV said, personally I don't look at Klonopins like people view Xanax and Valium.... But give GABA a try that's your next best medicine to help you out. Smoking pot is great too, but if it's controlled. Pot will release anxiety, but can increase depression.. They are trying to approve medical marijuana Federally to any Vet with PTSD... The only downside is if you go that route you can be flagged and may not be able to purchase firearms.

I conduct all my doctor appointments outside of the VA. So I'm not flagged in the govt. system.

phenibut at 2-3 grams is great for this as far as legal otc options go.

Gabba damn near every day for me, but JV you already know this lol.

Hog is the one who talked me into trying my already prescribed gabbapenton. Before that I'd toss them.

Daredevil, brought this one up to the wife. She is a 20 year experienced ICU and emergency room nurse and has seen pretty much all of these meds and their affects on the human beings that take them. Coming from a family that has had several individuals who suffered from depression or other symptoms warranting these types of meds, she advises heavily against self medicating. As she has no problem with hormones or any other of the wonderful goods we induce into our bodies - she suggested a doctor's help with this one as he can monitor dose, affects, and your sensitivity to it. They all do different things. She's always been there for me man. When she tells me something medical, She has been spot on. She has helped several members in here with difficult situations.

Oh yes brother I wouldn't even attempt to self medicate with medicines for this issue. I just want to get some background on different medicines that I can talk to the doctor about it.

I made an appointment with a doctor for mid July. I plan to mention what I believe is good options and see what he says and recommends.

I've heard of some people committing suicide under certain medications so I wouldn't want to self medicate.

just be careful if you do get prescribed benzos as they seem relatively harmless but can be quite habit-forming and can carry a nasty physical dependence and be very hard to detox off of.

benzos=xanax/klonopin/valium, etc.
