How many Southerners do we have here? If you're from down south (anywhere along your family tree) you already figgered out what I had for dinner tonight. Dont know the origin, but Ive had the same thing every year for as long as I can remember.

pork and cabage? i forget but i used to have a roommate that cooked it every year. i just can't think of it right now

Yessir! Pork chops, black eyed peas, collard greens, and corn bread. Heaps of goodness.

that actually sounds good, can i swap the pork chop for a chicken breast and get my collards steamed please?

Steamed yes, swap no.

Each of those items signifies a specific hope for the new year.

Pork- plenty to eat, happiness
Greens- dollars
Black eyed peas- pennies (more $)
Corn bread- sweetness for all

Old southern ways, been around fer years.

Yep and all together lots say its just general good luck.. I grew up with all of that and I HATED black eyed peas with a passion. I actually really like them now so I look forward to those meals.. Having black eyed peas, cornbread, pork chops and fried okra was very common at dinner when i was a kid..

So is marrying your cousin 😉

Ours was always with cabbage or sour kraut, but I guess that's the German in me.

Hell with all that traditional crap............I went to Outback and had a 12 Sirloin topped with Lump Crabmeat and Hollandaise sauce, Loaded baked Potato, Salad, and Chicken Quesadilla's. Dessert was home made chocolate chip cookies with Chocolate covered caramel pieces baked in the center of the cookie
