I would like to draw your attention, (esp Grim) to www.privatedemail.net. I don't know if anyone has used them, or heard about their track record, but they look pretty attractive as an alternative to safemail (compromised) or other encrypted email services hosted in the US.
They are hosted out of Germany, encrypted, and allegedly do not comply with request to invade their user's privacy. Unfortunately you do need to use a third party POP3 email client to access it.
Comments, thoughts, from those more knowledgeable than myself about cyber security?

I'm getting conflicting stories about the Validity of Safe-Mail being compromised. I have one supplier who claims he has been hacked three seperate times through the Safe-mail site. However, the means and method of hacking he describes are not in anyway an internal issue for Safe-Mail. They are more of a hacker who has access to someone's (or multiple) usernames and passwords. For instance, using the same username and password for email and forum log ins. The informations leads me to believe the problem isn't Safemail, it is a little more sinister than that; unless Jurgen, you have something specific you are talking about.

I saw the post about safe-mail that you're talking about, there were some other concerns about it. Namely that Israel would comply with requests from the US government for access, and safe-mail themselves occasionally complying with LE requests themselves when they believe illegal activities were taking place.
I like the idea of privatedemail, in that no logs are kept, ip addresses are never logged or stored, the servers get scrubbed nightly, and they are very small and less well-known so the chances of them being snooped on by hackers and LE is lower.
I verified that a privatedemail account won't communicate with my safe-mail, but test messages worked fine from hush, cyber-rights, rise-up.net, gmail and yahoo.
