My oldest son plays competitive basketball and the coach has them run a lot of suicides.
(Running quarter court and back, half court and back, full court and back as 1 rep)

Well, I gave it a shot today.

Not too bad, I think, for 40+yrs old and at 203lb.

I made 1 rep in 31seconds.
(And I did deadlifts last night, + haven't ran in forever, other than a 100yd jog ever now and then.)

Yeah, I know it's only 1 rep, and my son runs 8 reps, but it's a start.

My cardio and stamina suck right now and I'm going to fix that for 2016.

I'll post up again as I progress.
I'm hoping to get to 8 reps and increase my time too.

Btw, his coach demands 32sec or less, or they have to run more.
(just to put my time in perspective)

sounds like a great way to run HIIT, should have great results with fat burning

Thanks MisterB!!!
I didn't think of the fat burning aspect, but I think your right.
It should help me tighten up the waistline a bit.

i would need to drop weight to run many suicides...too hard on my joints... but i'm trying to get down to about 200lbs and i think i would like to add some higher intensity running then.

I know what you mean brother!!! 😉

On the turns, I was particuliarly careful on my decelerations and changes of direction.
Otherwise, I might have been a sec or 2 faster. 🙂

I was thinking I don't want to blow out a knee or ankle. 8)

Suicide sprints are great for conditioning. Give 30/60s a try sometime as well.. sprint all out for 30 seconds, dead walk for 1 minute. They will rapidly boost cardiovascular endurance, and burn body fat effectively (whereas we all know steady state cardio is an inferior option with regular use, due to a lack in heart rate elevation).
