Anyone who’s ever been to a fitness expo knows that there are a lot of protein bars being handed out and sampled – and many of them taste more or less the same. But today, Olympia Expo attendees are going to be introduced to a brand-new bar that does NOT taste like all the others: Frank Sepe’s Protein Treat marshmallow flavored crisp from Sepe Nutrition.
When we say it’s new, we mean it. He just received the first boxes late last night (Friday), which means they’re being officially unveiled today (Day 2) at the 2023 Olympia World Fitness Expo at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.
For those of you not at the expo and unable to try the bar for yourself, take it from us: it’s amazing. A small group of M&F staffers got to try it last night, and the consensus was that it tastes just like a Rice Krispie Treat. It’s soft, chewy, satisfying… and contains a whopping 15 grams of protein, only 3 grams of net carbs, and a mere 2 grams of sugar.
Correction: It’s not technically a bar. “I don’t like the word ‘bar,’” says Sepe. “It’s more of a treat, but it’s like a protein treat. It looks like a Rice Krispie Treat, but it’s obviously lower in calories, high in protein, very low in sugar, gluten-free, and it tastes great.”
Sepe worked with his team on this product for over a year, looking for just the right taste, texture, and macronutrient profile. Needless to say, he’s extremely happy with the end result.
“Before I decided to create a product, I was looking for something on the market to eat that was a dessert and was satisfying but didn’t have a crazy amount of sugar and calories,” he says. “And I found nothing. Every bar I tried tasted like chemicals and was just fricking gross. They’re floating with sugar alcohols, basically just garbage. So I set out to find the right formulation. My marshmallow treat doesn’t get hard. It’s not like a hockey puck. It keeps its consistency, and it’s absolutely delicious.”
The Sepe Nutrition Protein Treat will be available online and in stores across the country very soon. Retail locations will include both sports nutrition and specialty health food stores. For updates on when and where Sepe’s new treats will be sold, follow his Instagram page.
