Tweet: Why Is Ronda Rousey Hiding Behind Her Weight?
By Rory Kernaghan -
Oct 20, 2015

UFC bantamweight boss Ronda Rousey is the hottest topic in MMA right now, there’s no hiding from that, but there is still one ever-looming question; what about Cris Cyborg? The two former Strikeforce champions have shared a rivalry since the days of the now defunct promotion, but money and politics have often got in the way. The main sticking point this year is weight.

With Justino now attempting a cut to 140 pounds for her next fight, she’s obviously willing to make the sacrifice for the big money fight, but one common opponent of both ‘Rowdy’ and Cris Cyborg is critical of these hurdles. Check out what Charmaine Tweet told The Fight Network during her recent interview:

“If she cuts to 135 to fight Ronda, is she going to keep fighting at 135? I can’t see that, I can see her cutting to bantamweight for that one fight with Ronda, and then the UFC opening up the featherweight division. The fight just keeps getting further away, it just doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen any time soon.”

“I don’t think Dana wants Ronda to lose, and I really think she would. Just to keep the face of women’s MMA looking good, I don’t think that’s going to happen. I do believe the champ should stay at her weight, however, in the Ronda and Cris saga, I do remember her saying ‘Oh yeah, I’m ready to fight Cyborg and Gina Carano right now, I’d beat them right now.’ So she was calling them out at a heavier weight. Ronda and I fought at 150 pounds, so at that time she was calling Cyborg out, and then all of a sudden when the fight could happen she is saying ‘No, come to 135.’ So why is she running? Why is she trying to hide behind her weight?”

Cyborg herself has also blasted Rousey many times for ‘avoiding’ the fight, and the two were heavily rumoured to be fighting earlier this year. As it worked out, ‘Rowdy’ got Holly Holm for UFC 193, but Tweet maintains that Justino hits way harder than Rousey, and that would be the difference maker:

“I really think (Cyborg would win that fight). I’ve been hit by Cyborg and Rousey, and when you look at Ronda when she is getting punched, she is pushing her face away like ‘Oh don’t hit me.’ I have no idea why Miesha Tate was trying to take Ronda down, I think the idea is to stay on the feet and smash her, and Cyborg hits very hard.”

Tweet prepares for her next fight at Prestige FC 1, and is hopeful the UFC will soon open up the women’s featherweight ranks.

No difference than the IFBB trying to choose Mr Olympia. Too few competitors, too many politics

Agreed. Look at all the promos and commercials the UFC puts her in. She is a cash cow. There comes a point though were you become a paper champ. I dont think Ronda wants that. Maybe she does.... 8 figure contracts does that to a person
