Not all multivitamin products are the same. Dosages are often formulated for non-athletes, and the bioavailability of contained micronutrients is typically extremely low.
Athletes and hard-training fitness fanatics are not like sedentary persons. Our needs for both macro and micro-nutrients are far different than that of an average person.
We manage our food intake to best meet our macronutrient needs (carbohydrate, protein, fat). While doing so we also hope that this food also provides us with the right micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, enzymes, anti-oxidants, electrolytes). However, even when athletes are making the best food choices, they are often lacking in optimal intake of many of these micronutrients.
"Micronutrients are nutrients required by humans and other organisms throughout life in small quantities to orchestrate a range of physiological functions. For people, they include dietary trace minerals in amounts generally less than 100 milligrams/day - as opposed to macrominerals which are required in larger quantities." - Wikipedia

All of these different micronutrients are essential to our body. They assist with the vital processes of performance, energy, endurance, and recovery. Over time if these micronutrients are lacking, the body will suffer and show different symptoms of deficiency.
This is why it is imperative that every serious athlete utilizes an athletic multi-vitamin/mineral. This product will help address deficiencies before they arise.

The Problem With "Typical" Multivitamins

The problem we encounter with the average multivitamin/mineral product are:

Problem #1 - Athletes Have Different Needs

They are formulated for the needs of the sedentary individual. Non-athletes require less overall micronutrients and dramatically smaller quantities of certain important micronutrients.
Even taking 2-3 times the recommended amount isn't enough for the hard-training athlete.

Problem #2 - Low Bioavailability

The bioavailablity of these multivitamins is extremely low. They are made in a hard-pressed tablet form. This production method is cheaper; but the binders, heat, and compression by which the product is made make the micronutrients mostly unusable in our bodies.
This means that you often absorb less than 25% of the claimed nutritional value in a hard-pressed tablet vitamin. In fact, as disturbing as it may sound, these hard tablet vitamins often exit the body in the same shape and size as when they were taken.

Why Formula 1 is Different

Formula 1 from High Performance Nutrition was made to address both of these issues. Formula 1 highlights:
  • Formula 1 from HPN Optimal levels of micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) athletes need to train, function, and recover at peak levels.
  • Vegan capsules (NO GELATIN) and cold processed formulation using no heat to keep all vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants alive and bioavailable.
  • Digestive enzymes added to insure proper and full food breakdown and utilization.
  • Spectra ORAC blend cold process extracted from 35 fruits, vegetables, and herbs: providing 10,000 ORAC value per serving.
  • L-Carnitine Tartrate for brain function and healthy metabolism.
  • R-ALA to optimize carbohydrate absorption and glucose disposal.
It's essential that you add F(1) or a high-quality sports multi-vitamin into your nutritional regimen. These types of nutritional supplements help to make sure you are getting all of the micronutrients you need to keep your body functioning at its best.
